On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, master’s students in the Civil Engineering – Building Renovation program organized the 6th Geotechnical Engineering Forum at Mainz University of Applied Sciences as part of the “Geotechnical Engineering 3” module under the direction of Prof. Dr. Kluge. The event took place in the auditorium at the Holzstraße campus and was aimed at students, faculty, and external guests from the fields of construction and the environment.
Sonntag Baugesellschaft mbH & Co. KG kicked off the series of technical presentations. Christian Trittenbach, the company’s senior site manager, spoke on the topic “Pneumatic Tunneling: The Case of a Construction Project in Nuremberg.” He provided fascinating insights into this challenging construction method and highlighted the geotechnical and operational challenges that can arise when working with compressed air.
In his presentation on “The Pergamon Museum in Berlin—Geological and Structural Challenges of Foundation Work,” Philipp Körner, senior construction manager at Implenia Civil Engineering GmbH, took the audience on a journey through a complex construction project in a historic, inner-city setting. He vividly illustrated the geological, structural, and construction-related constraints that played a central role in the foundation of the weather protection roof.
Dr. Simon Stahr of URETEK Deutschland GmbH concluded the lecture program with his presentation on “Geotechnics Under Pressure – Applications of Synthetic Resin Injections in Special Civil Engineering.” He explained how synthetic resin injections can be used for ground improvement and stabilization, and used impressive real-world examples to highlight the versatile applications this method offers.
Following the presentations, participants gathered for food and cold beverages. In a relaxed atmosphere, attendees had the opportunity to engage in conversation with the speakers, students, and guests, delve deeper into questions, and network.
