On May 13, as part of the 2023 Open House, numerous prospective students interested in the Geoinformatics and Surveying (GUV) program visited Mainz University of Applied Sciences. A diverse program gave them the opportunity to gain insights into the department’s various degree programs and to talk with students and professors.
All bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Geoinformatics and Surveying were presented in the department’s measurement laboratory. Master’s students Eric Bach and Marvin Fitzke caused quite a stir when they demonstrated in the courtyard just what’s possible with small drones.
As was the case last year, the auditorium’s stage program, “Insights from the Degree Programs,” focused on students’ practical experiences. Under the theme “Criminalistics & Cross-Phenomenon Analysis—On Determining Perpetrator Size and the Spatial Investigation of ATM Blast-Outs,” Kerstin Jeppe spoke about her collaboration with the Hessian State Criminal Police Office (HLKA), which formed the basis of her bachelor’s thesis. Janine Kelkel and Anna-Lena Trapp reported on their project, in which they tracked the spatial distribution of ATM explosions using open data. The discussion was moderated by Julia Schneider.
The program was rounded out by two short presentations: “A Playful Path to Success—Drones in Geoinformatics and Surveying” by Pascal Neis, and “Bridges for Eternity—What Might Structural Monitoring Look Like?” by Kira Zschiesche.
