With the title Smile – Deine Idee für eine nachhaltige und digitale Hochschule! (Smile – Your idea for a sustainable and digital university!) Mainz University of Applied Sciences is once again inviting its students to contribute their own ideas for the continued development of degree programs and teaching. The university-wide competition, held every two years, will take place in 2025 with the theme Sustainability and Digital Transformation”.
The aim is to gather practical and innovative suggestions on how degree programs, teaching, and university life can be made more sustainable, digital and forward-looking for the benefit of students, teaching staff, and the university as a whole.
The university is looking for creative, implementable, and future-oriented ideas that address at least one of the two main topics:
Sustainability
Concepts for conserving resources, promoting sustainable behavior, or fostering social responsibility in everyday student life.
Digital transformation
New digital tools for degree programs and teaching, hybrid learning formats, smart communication solutions, or critical reflections on digital developments
Important: The focus is on concrete solution proposals, not general criticism or construction projects. Submissions will be evaluated based on innovation, added value & relevance, feasibility, and level of reflection.
The application phase runs from June 23 to August 30, 2025.
A voluntary information session will take place online on July 16 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. To participate, simply send the entry form and privacy policy to kompetenzzentrum (at) hs-mainz.de
The eight best ideas will advance to the finals. The finalists will create a video pitch, which will be evaluated by a panel of judges consisting of teachers and students from all three schools.
The award ceremony will be held on November 13, 2025, as part of the LEHRimpuls event at LUX. The prize includes a monetary award of up to 1,000 Euro. Mainz University of Applied Sciences would like to enable all students to participate. If there are barriers to using the forms or other access issues, we can offer alternatives.
