Academic work and research projects often contain significant potential for innovative business models. To make this potential visible at an early stage and to promote the transfer of research findings to the business world and society, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is a partner of the Young Entrepreneurs in Science (YES) initiative.
YES is an initiative funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). Its aim is to show students and research staff how their research can open up entrepreneurial opportunities, and to support them in turning innovative ideas into reality. After all, research and founding a business are not mutually exclusive—in fact, they can complement each other effectively.
Through interactive workshops and events, YES works with its partner universities to provide methods and tools for identifying and further developing the commercial potential of academic research.
On July 2, 2026, Mainz University of Applied Sciences hosted the “Navigating Power Structures—Women only” workshop as part of the EXIST-Women program.
The next workshop, “From Research to Real-World Impact: Your Roadmap from Idea to Application,” will take place in person on November 25 and 26, 2026. Registration information will be published beginning in September through the channels of Mainz University of Applied Sciences’ Office of Startup Services.
Beyond the workshops, the Start-up Services of Mainz University of Applied Sciences (website in German) also offers aspiring entrepreneurs individual advice and support with applications for regional funding programs—from the initial idea through implementation of a start-up venture.
