Center for Information and Communication Technology (ZIK)

General Information

The ZIK operates the university's central information and communication technology. This means planning, coordination, procurement and support, as well as the secure operation of the information and communication technology infrastructure and the necessary systems. This includes the communication networks and services, central servers and services such as e-mail service / groupware, virus and SPAM protection, directory service, file service, etc., central storage and backup systems, database systems, computer workstations and computer pools assigned to the ZIK, as well as advice and information for users.

Hardware and Software

In the engineering sciences, for example, training in computer-aided design, invitations to submit bids, awarding of contracts and invoicing for architects and interior designers, calculation and CAD programs for civil engineers and GIS application programs, (satellite) image processing and geo-databases in geoinformatics and surveying are carried out in five workrooms with approx. 100 student workplaces. Scanners, printers and large format plotters are available for input and output.

In design and media design, programs for web design, information design, interactive design, image editing, layout, font creation and video editing are mainly used in teaching in five pools with a total of more than 50 workstations at two locations.

In three training rooms with 75 workstations, the IT application systems in the business sciences prepare students for the classic workflows in the office environment (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation techniques, etc.) and new electronic business processes or special business management problems (in organization, controlling or statistics, for example).
