NODE+CODE Meetup #15 – Digital knowledge tools

Marcel Backscheider

2 May 2024, 18:00, In cooperation with Hochschule Mainz

NODE+CODE #15 will be hosted by DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum e.V. in Frankfurt. DFF invites us to celebrate the launch of “Constellation 2.0 // Constellations of Cinematic Knowledge” with them and their project partner ACMI (formerly the Australian Center of the Moving Image) and to speak about digital curation: How do curatorial practices and digital media shape what we learn and how can we dismantle established hierarchies of knowledge through critically developed and non-commercial tools?

The meetup invites three parties to present different locally developed tools for annotation, collection, curation and narratives around knowledge production.

Starting at 18:00, you can put the new hybrid museum experience “Constellation” exhibition tool to the test. Constellation expands the museum space and allows visitors to discover new connections between objects in the exhibitions, archives and collections of the DFF and its project partners. In this way, new and diverse constellations and storylines are created that allow for the discovery of richer cinematic knowledge.

At 18:30, David Rittershaus, researcher at Hochschule Mainz, will present the project and tool set Motion Bank.

The NODE team will present a new tool idea that has just come up early this year in collaboration with METAhub and the Max-Dienemann / Salomon-Formstecher Gesellschaft: Mapping Offenbach is a prototype for a collaborative annotation tool. It originates from a shared development process between 12 artists, designers and researchers who reflected on the role of tools and people in memory culture. Sharing knowledge about the Jewish history of the city of Offenbach, the tool captures spoken stories and allows for annotations through multiple layers, therefore understanding knowledge as an active, living experience.

As always, the event will be accompanied by a warm, tasty soup – this time prepared for us by DFF <3!
