Prof. Dr. Sabine Landwehr-Zloch

Prof. Dr. Sabine Landwehr-Zloch was appointed to Mainz University of Applied Sciences in October 2023 and teaches General Business Administration in the Department of Economics, with a focus on finance and accounting/controlling

What motivated you to move to Mainz University of Applied Sciences?

I’ve been a professor for 10 years now and have gained experience with various types of higher education institutions during that time. It all began with my own education and my work as a research assistant at a traditional university (Otto Friedrich University of Bamberg). After several years as an innovation manager at BASF, I accepted my first appointment at a private university specializing in blended learning for working professionals (Wilhelm Büchner University). A few years later, I received my next appointment at a dual university (DHBW in Karlsruhe).

Every type of university has its advantages and can produce outstanding graduates. After all, the university landscape is now as diverse as its students.

I made a conscious decision to apply to Mainz University of Applied Sciences: Here, I can combine my passion for research with teaching—something I felt was missing at the other universities. I also appreciate that Mainz University of Applied Sciences is a cosmopolitan place with a great learning and working atmosphere and a wonderful faculty. I’m very happy to now be part of Mainz University of Applied Sciences.

What appeals to you most about your new position?

As we all know, our society faces a wide range of challenges, and solutions must be found—on both a large and small scale. What appeals to me about this new position is that, through teaching, I can help prepare students for the future. And I’m just as excited to help develop and implement solutions to current issues through my research activities. It doesn’t always have to be rocket science. One topic I’m currently exploring, for example, is whether and how digital forms of financing can be used as a lever for societal participation in the energy transition. For good ideas to emerge, you need the right conditions—and I’ve found those at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.

What topic would you like to discuss with students in a casual setting?

I interact with students a lot—mostly, of course, on academic topics. In a casual setting, I’d love to talk about what ideas they have for how each individual can help promote sustainability in everyday life (diet, mobility, consumption). And I’d also be interested to know where the best parties are held around here. J
