Doctoral Programs at Universities of Applied Sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate

Qualified early-career researchers at universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate now have a new opportunity: In addition to the traditional collaborative doctoral program in partnership with universities, it is now also possible to pursue an independent doctoral degree at a university of applied sciences. The new doctoral program allows students to earn a doctoral degree with a practical focus within the field of applied research—thus directly linking theory and practice. Approved Doctoral Clusters

As part of the state funding program, three doctoral clusters have already been approved; they have now been officially established and are beginning their work:

• Applied Computer Science
• Medical & Environmental Life Sciences
• Sustainable Technology & Natural Sciences

These three clusters pool the research strengths of several universities and address forward-looking questions across a broad range of topics. In line with its research profile, Mainz University of Applied Sciences is actively involved in several of these approved clusters.

Development of the Fourth Cluster

Another doctoral cluster focusing on innovation in business and society is currently still in the development phase. The participating universities are working to design this cluster in the near future and submit it for approval. The goal is to provide structured access to doctoral programs at universities of applied sciences in this field as well and to further strengthen innovative research perspectives.
