The three departments— Design, Technology, and Business —at our university offer a diverse and interdisciplinary education that combines creativity, technical expertise, and entrepreneurial thinking. The Design Department focuses on design and creative processes, while the Engineering Department provides a solid foundation in engineering and combines hands-on research with sustainable technologies to develop future-oriented solutions. The Business department focuses on business administration knowledge and management skills, as well as business law and all relevant IT issues that are essential for the management of modern companies, among other things.
Together, our three departments provide a comprehensive academic foundation for the demands of today’s professional world. This is another reason why we are expanding our offerings of interdisciplinary courses and projects—not only within the departments but also across them. Starting in 2026, our new, shared campus will also offer many opportunities for interaction among students, faculty, and staff beyond teaching and research—whether in the cafeteria, the Magistrale, the library, at the many exciting events, or simply over a cup of coffee in one of our courtyards.
Design
Discover your creativity: The Department of Design is more than just the sum of its three disciplines: Communication Design, Interior Architecture, and Time-Based Media. In the Department of Design, you’ll immerse yourself in the world of creative ideas, numerous disciplines and forms of expression, and how they come to be—with a practical focus grounded in theoretical foundations and conceptual methods. Here, you’ll shape not only your professional future but also your personality. Our programs are designed to unlock your creative potential and empower you to bring your ideas to life.
In an atmosphere characterized by innovation and inspiration, you’ll learn from experienced faculty members who are themselves deeply rooted in the design, art, interior design, or media scenes. Here, your passion for design meets modern and extensive facilities and technology, as well as individualized and personalized support. In addition to digital resources such as the Robolab and our computer labs, you’ll also have access to numerous hands-on workshops. These provide space for craftsmanship, creative processes, and artistic experimentation—from printing to photography, from woodworking and model making to bookbinding. Here, you’ll learn classic techniques, build upon them, and combine them with modern approaches. This allows you to actively experiment with materials, tools, and methods and bring your projects to life in a hands-on way. Artificial intelligence is firmly anchored in the department as a cross-disciplinary topic—for example, through the “Design with Artificial Intelligence” professorship, which combines artistic and design quality with digital expertise.
Technology
Think beyond disciplinary boundaries: The School of Engineering stands for innovation, interdisciplinary work, and future-oriented education. In the three fields of Applied Computer Science and Geodesy, Architecture, and Construction and Environment, you’ll actively shape the world of tomorrow—creatively, sustainably, and using state-of-the-art technology.
Our bachelor’s and master’s programs combine up-to-date content with methodological expertise and prepare you for complex tasks in a dynamic professional environment. You’ll learn how digital tools such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), geographic information systems, and monitoring applications are transforming planning and construction processes—for example, in the renovation, redesign, or further development of the built environment. Through interdisciplinary projects, you’ll be empowered to think beyond disciplinary boundaries—a key skill for sustainable solutions.
