InnoProm Security Project

The digital transformation is advancing at an ever-increasing pace. More and more companies and public agencies are adopting cloud-based IT strategies. In addition to the technical and organizational challenges posed by migrating or installing new IT systems in the cloud, questions regarding IT security and data protection often remain inadequately addressed. It is important to take a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to the concepts of IT security and data protection. Consequently, the analysis must not be reduced exclusively to technical issues. The InnoProm Security project —IT Security and Data Protection in the Cloud— has a four-year duration (2018–2021) and makes important contributions to addressing these questions. The project was launched in July 2018 in collaboration with Mainz University of Applied Sciences, the University of Koblenz-Landau, and sapite GmbH, a company specializing in security-critical architectures. The InnoProm Security project is one of four InnoProm projects at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The collaborative doctoral program is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and co-financed by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science and Health (MWG RLP).

Secure Cloud Computing for the EU, for Rhineland-Palatinate, and for SMEs

The project makes important contributions to secure cloud computing for the European Union (EU), for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP), and for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Rhineland-Palatinate: During a research stay in September and October 2018, doctoral candidate Marc A. Schubert made important contributions to cybersecurity in the 2018 Banking Union Report, in addition to analyzing security requirements in European public institutions. Through the transfer of the project’s innovations, significant contributions to secure software development were made for two strategically important projects in Rhineland-Palatinate. As part of the project, innovation potential was tapped for the partner company sapite GmbH, which is now being further expanded and operationalized in a new business unit dedicated to security consulting.

Ph.D.

A key component of the InnoProm Security project is the collaborative doctoral program with the University of Koblenz-Landau, Department 4 (Computer Science). The doctoral candidate in this program is Marc Aurel Schubert, Head of the Security Consulting Division at sapite GmbH. The doctoral project is titled “Secure Software Development of Cloud Applications—Identification and Validation of Success Factors from a Strategic and Operational Perspective, with Special Emphasis on Systems, Processes, and Tools.” It comprises four work phases and three sub-studies, which are linked within a common framework.
