Project

The “Travelguide Interface” research project has been a collaborative effort between SWR and Mainz University of Applied Sciences since September 2021. The ARD Mediathek team is working with Prof. Dr. Pascal Neis from the Department of Engineering and Prof. Dr. Sven Pagel from the Department of Economics, as well as research assistants.

 

This project is one of three subprojects within the “5GMedia2Go” innovation initiative. Together with this alliance of companies from the automotive and telecommunications industries, the project aims to enable the integration of audiovisual media services—such as linear TV, access to the ARD Mediathek, and location-based content—into automotive infotainment systems. The overarching “5GMedia2Go” project aims to implement three application scenarios:

  • Linear use of TV services via a 5G broadcast test transmission
  • Non-linear use of TV content via the ARD media library

 

  • Context-based selection of TV content based on geolocation data in the vehicle (“Travelguide”)

 

The “Travelguide Service” collaboration between SWR and the Departments of Engineering and Business at Mainz University of Applied Sciences supports the development of geo-referenced recommendations for content from the ARD Media Library and their integration into a vehicle’s infotainment system.

The project was completed in early 2023.
