Everything you need to know about planning and completing a study abroad program.
General Information
The School of Engineering has a large number of partner universities. As a rule, the exchange spots available at these institutions are reserved for specific degree programs. You can find more information on the general Partner Universities page.
Students in the Civil Engineering, International Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering (Construction), and Construction and Real Estate Management programs can find a list of their partner universities here.
Of course, you can also apply to other universities as a “free mover.” If you wish to have your studies recognized at a non-partner university, you must meet the conditions listed below. If you are interested, please schedule an appointment at the International Office.
The School of Engineering offers two general and two program-specific information sessions each year. You will be notified of the dates via email to your student email address (vorname.nachname@students.hs-mainz.de).
You can schedule individual counseling appointments with the International Office.
Application
Once you have gathered enough information about study opportunities abroad and know which partner universities would be a good fit for you, you can apply to the International Office for a spot at one of our partner universities.
Bewerbungsvoraussetzungen zum Zeitpunkt der Bewerbung:
Architektur
- ab dem 6. Semester
- Learning Agreement vor Ausreise
- 120 Credits der ersten 4 Semester zum Zeitpunkt der Ausreise
- Unterrichtssprache der Zielhochschule auf B2-Niveau

Die Bewerbung um einen Studienplatz läuft über Mobility Online. Den Link zur Online-Bewerbung erhalten Sie mit einer Ausschreibungs-E-Mail, die 4–6 Wochen vor Deadline an Ihre studentische E-Mail-Adresse verschickt wird. Das Bewerbungsverfahren ist zweistufig:
- Intern, d.h. eine Auswahlkommission des jeweiligen Studiengangs entscheidet nach Durchschnittnote, Sprachkenntnissen und Motivationsstatement, ob Sie nominiert werden.
- Extern, d.h. Sie werden an der Partnerhochschule nominiert und müssen deren Bewerbungsverfahren absolvieren.

- Motivationsschreiben in der Unterrichtssprache der Gasthochschule (nur für 1. Priorität)
- Aktuelle Notenübersicht
- Sprachnachweis für die Unterrichtssprache der Gasthochschule (mind. B2)
Recognition
For all degree programs, the recognition of coursework completed at a foreign university is generally handled by the program director. Once you submit your “Transcript of Records,” your grades will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office. Recognition should take place immediately upon your return.
To ensure that your study abroad experience is mentioned on your bachelor’s degree certificate, please send an email to the Registrar’s Office of the School of Engineering requesting that it be included in the Diploma Supplement.
Grades are converted according to ECTS guidelines or, in cases where this is not possible, according to the “modifiedBavarian formula.”
Learning Agreement
The most important part of your application to study abroad is the “Learning Agreement.” It specifies which courses you will take abroad and how they will be recognized by Mainz University of Applied Sciences upon your return.
Please check the course offerings at the respective partner universities on their websites and complete the Learning Agreement based on that information. You will receive further details after your nomination.
