Lehre

A Passion for Drawing

I try to teach drawing as an open-ended, exploratory process and inspire enthusiasm for observing, understanding and interpreting the visible world. My aim is to establish a contemporary, open and experimental approach to drawing education, with particular emphasis on visual perception, hands-on practice and artistic experimentation. I consider drawing not primarily a matter of talent, but a skill that can be learned and developed through observation, practice and reflection. Drawing is both a means of representation and a way of thinking. It allows us to investigate our surroundings, understand spatial relationships and develop new perspectives on familiar subjects. For me, drawing begins with learning to see. Every object, space or situation contains relationships of line, shape, proportion, light and shadow that must first be carefully observed. The task of drawing is not simply to reproduce what we already know, but to discover what we actually see. I encourage students to move beyond familiar visual conventions and develop an individual approach to drawing. My aim is to encourage curiosity, confidence and the ability to use drawing as a tool for observation, exploration and creative expression. Students are encouraged to take initiative, explore different techniques, accept mistakes as part of learning and develop confidence in their own visual decisions. My teaching approach therefore combines the development of practical drawing skills with a broader understanding of drawing as a process of inquiry. Seminars include all areas of analogue printmaking, I have been co-responsible for the artistic printmaking facilities together with Prof. Monika Aichele since 2012. My seminars are generally Closed Laptop Sessions.
