Scientific Practice

At Mainz University of Applied Sciences, good scientific practice is considered a prerequisite for high-quality teaching and research. This is the central element—and, so to speak, the “Magna Carta”—for our university’s national and international recognition, as well as its appeal to students, early-career researchers, and established scholars. Furthermore, it enhances our appeal for collaboration with other national and international research institutions and provides the foundation for securing third-party funding. Fundamentally, the responsibility for the integrity of teaching lies with every researcher at Mainz University of Applied Sciences to conduct their own research in accordance with these principles and to mentor and train early-career researchers in line with them. The principles of good scientific practice and academic integrity are based, among other things, on the proposals of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the recommendations of the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) regarding the handling of scientific misconduct at universities. These have led to the establishment of a regulatory framework at Mainz University of Applied Sciences governing the principles for ensuring good scientific practice and for addressing cases of scientific misconduct.
