DigiKoSMos

Project Objective

DigiKoSMos is a project at Hochschule Mainz that aims to strengthen the digital skills and independence of third-country nationals in Rhineland-Palatinate who may be interested in returning to their country of origin.

The project provides practical digital education to improve participants’ opportunities in employment, education and social participation. The courses cover basic and professional digital skills, including the safe and confident use of digital tools and technologies, online services and digital resources for everyday life and professional development.

DigiKoSMos combines face-to-face courses in reception facilities with online learning opportunities and individual support. The project also includes scientific research to evaluate the learning activities and their long-term impact.

A key objective is to strengthen participants’ employability – their ability to find and maintain employment and to adapt to changing requirements of the labour market. The skills taught are based on recognised frameworks and standards such as the European Digital Competence Framework (DigComp).

The project is designed to provide sustainable perspectives regardless of whether participants remain in Germany, return to their country of origin or move to another country. By strengthening digital competences, DigiKoSMos supports greater self-determination, social participation and professional opportunities.

The project is carried out by the WIMM research group at Hochschule Mainz and is funded by the European Union’s Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF 2021–2027) and the Ministry for Family, Women, Culture and Integration of Rhineland-Palatinate (MFFKI).
